75,000 children at the Jumeirah Playground

Since it opened in 2000, more than 75,000 children have enjoyed one of the best adventure playgrounds in the world at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai.

Plascoat's versatile Performance Polymer Alloy coating PPA 571 has no small part to play in its success. The coating has proved its durability and longevity and, continues to provide unbeatable protection for the steel framework. The one-acre playground has proved to be a valuable asset to the hotel's facilities and is certainly a popular attraction to the younger guests at this world class hotel complex.

The coating has demonstrated beyond doubt its capability to withstand the harsh effects of coastal salt, intensive UV rays, 100% humidity, high desert winds and rapid temperature fluctuations as well as the wear and tear of over 25,000 children who have taken pleasure in the playground since it opened in 1998.

PPA 571 has been successfully used in a number of major construction projects including the Hong Kong Airport and the Channel Tunnel. A spokesman states "PPA 571 has proved to be one of our most versatile products and has been used in applications as diverse as fencing in Palm Beach, Florida to electrical junction boxes in Canada. It is a real testimony to the product that the Leisure complex at Jumeirah Beach is still in pristine condition".

The key benefits of PPA 571 include long-term adhesion (without the need for a primer), excellent edge coverage and extremely high levels of resistance to impact, abrasion, stress cracking, weather and pollutants.

PPA 571 is available for both fluidised bed and electrostatic spraying.

Skateboard parks

A leading manufacturer of steel components in France has been astounded by the outcome of trials of Plascoat's thermoplastic coating, PPA 571 on their steel panels and ramps used for skateboard and bicycle parks.

The results follow successful  trials at a skateboard park in Thonon les Bains in the Rhone Alps region of France, close to the Swiss border.

The manufacturer was initially unconvinced that the coated ramps, previously finished in stainless steel, would be able to withstand the extreme abrasion, impact and graffiti that skateboard parks continually suffer from.

After 12 months of trials however, the Technical Manager was staggered by the results. "We are very impressed by the performance of PPA 571, not only has it provided excellent protection against abrasion and corrosion, the skaters loved it too because of its soft feel and excellent surface properties for smooth, fast skating".

However, one of the most persistent problems in these environments is graffiti. Skateboard parks provide a prime target for budding young artists. The Technical Manager continued " after cleaning the graffiti from the ramps, the coated finish was in excellent condition".
