Deconyl SP 95 R - Nylon

Coating Powder

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Deconyl SP 95 is a nylon 11 based powder applied to metal by the fluidised bed process.  It gives a protective and decorative finish and may be used where components require an attractive, hard, scratch resisting finish.

Other features of Deconyl SP 95 coatings include electrical resistance, high safe working temperature, and nylon's unique self-lubricating properties and excellent chemical resistance to solvents.  Deconyl SP 95 powder has excellent processing characteristics and gives a smooth, orange peel free finish.

TYPICAL USES

Metal furniture:

GUIDE TO TYPICAL COATING CONDITIONS

Batch operation:

Metal preheat temperature min 280°C/max. 400°C water quench to give high gloss finish

Automatic plant

Preheat oven           350°C

Cure oven                220°C

Cycle time               60 secs

Recommended Pretreatment:

Degrease              - solvent wash or vapour degrease

Shotblast              - to Swedish standard SA 2½-3

Adhesive Prime     - to give long term adhesion and optimum corrosion resistance apply over a suitable primer.

Thicknesses outside the recommended range may be detrimental to the properties of the coating.

For typical properties of the coating see overleaf.

The process temperatures used should only be the minimum to achieve an acceptable surface finish. Overheating may cause the coating to discolour later in storage or in service.

For typical properties of the coating see overleaf.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Deconyl SP 95 is supplied as a finely divided powder and normal handling precautions for dealing with fine organic powders should be taken - i.e. excessive dust generation and inhaling of the powder should be avoided.  The powder can ignite and burn if brought into direct contact with a source of ignition or exposed to abnormally high temperatures.

Reference should be made to Plascoat Health and Safety Data Sheet HS301, available on request.

Should the coating be required for contact with food or potable water, further details should be obtained from Plascoat.
