PLASCOAT VitroGuard 12

Performance Polymer Alloy Coating

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Plascoat VitroGuard 12 is a clear coating powder designed for the protection of glass. This encapsulation coating has been designed to adhere reasonably well to glass thereby offering both an attractive and impact resistant layer and reduced splintering of the glass in the event of breakage.

Plascoat VitroGuard 12 is based on modified polyolefins, is halogen free, and should not “yellow” or crack as a result of degradation from UV or other light sources.

TYPICAL USES

Coating of low temperature strip and fluorescent lighting.

Coating of glass bottles for chemicals.

GUIDE TO TYPICAL COATING

CONDITIONS

Recommended Pre-treatment:

Ensure glass is clean and free from grease..

Batch Operation:

Glass preheat temperature 230°C-350°C. Dipping time 10-15 seconds.  A post-heat cycle at 150-160°C may be required to fully develop the surface finish on some items

The process temperatures used should be the minimum required to get an acceptable surface finish. Over heating may cause the coating to discolor later in storage or service.

Thicknesses outside the recommended range may be detrimental to the properties of the coating.

For typical properties of the coating see below.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Plascoat VitroGuard 12 is supplied as a finely divided powder. Whilst there are no known health hazards associated with VitroGuard 12, normal handling precautions for dealing with fine organic powders should be taken - i.e. excessive dust generation and inhaling of the powder should be avoided. Facilities may be required for removing excess dust from the working area during the coating of certain difficult items.

As with all polymeric powders, the material can ignite if brought into contact with a high temperature source or ignition - particularly in the fluidised condition.

Reference should be made to Plascoat Health and Safety Data Sheet 515, available on request.

Should the coating be required for contact with food or potable water, further details should be obtained from Plascoat
