GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Plascoat PPA 571 H is a thermoplastic polyolefin based alloy, designed for application by fluidised bed dipping. When correctly applied over a suitably prepared metal surface, Plascoat PPA 571 H provides an excellent long-term corrosion resistant coating. The coating maintains excellent adhesion by chemical bonding to the metal substrate without the need for a separate adhesive primer.
Plascoat PPA 571 H Blue 536 is a "Water Byelaws Scheme - WRc Approved Product" for contact with potable water.
Plascoat PPA 571H has a higher melt viscosity than standard PPA 571, which gives it a higher resilience. It is therefore more suitable for coating thicker metal sections e.g. greater than 5mm. The high resilience makes it ideally suitable for gasket flanged surfaces and applications requiring '0' ring seals.

GUIDE TO TYPICAL COATING CONDITIONS
Recommended Pretreatment: For mild steel, ensure metal is clean by thorough degreasing and removal of mill scale. To get the full benefits of the material, the metal can be blast cleaned to Swedish standard SA 2½-3. For galvanised steel the surface should be grit blasted with a fine non-ferrous medium at a low pressure. For maximum long term adhesion, a suitable phosphate or chromate system should be used.
Batch Operation: Metal preheat temperature 240°C - 300°C, depending on metal thickness. (This assumes this is greater than 5mm). Dip for 5-10 seconds. A post-heat cycle at 200°C may be required to develop fully the surface finish.
The process temperatures used should be the minimum required to achieve an acceptable surface finish.
Overheating may causethe coating to discolour later in storage or in service.
Thicknesses outside the recommended range may be detrimental to the properties of the coating. If the temperature of the fluidised bed is likely to exceed 60°C,please discuss with Plascoat.
For typical properties of the coating see below.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Plascoat PPA 571 H is supplied as a finely divided powder. Whilst there are no known health hazards associated with PPA 571 H, normal handling precautions for dealing with fine organic powders should be taken - i.e. excessive dust generation and inhaling of the powder should be avoided. Facilities may be required for removing excess dust from the working area during the coating of more difficult items.
As with all polymeric powders, the material can ignite if brought into contact with a high temperature source or ignition - particularly in the fluidised condition.
Reference should be made to Plascoat Health and Safety Data Sheet HS504, available on request.
Should the coating be required for contact with food or potable water, further details should be obtained from Plascoat.
