GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Plascoat PPA 661 is a superior high performance coating powder based on an alloy of thermoplastics. It has been specifically designed to be applied by a variety of coating techniques including fluidised bed dipping to give a protective coating with excellent resistance to aqueous environments. Plascoat PPA 661 is resistant to stress cracking, salt, airborne pollutants and to dilute acids and alkalis whilst maintaining excellent adhesion to the metal substrate without the need for a separate primer. Phosphating is recommended for long life in more aggressive environments. Plascoat PPA 661 provides excellent electrical insulation and can withstand steady or cycling temperatures between -40°C and +65°C. The WRC has approved selected Plascoat PPA 661 colours for use with potable water. Tests conducted by the Danish Institute of Corrosion have shown that Plascoat PPA 661 is very suitable for coating reinforcement mesh and cages.

GUIDE TO TYPICAL COATING CONDITIONS
Recommended Pretreatment: Ensure metal is clean by thorough degreasing and removal of mill scale. To get the full benefits of the material, the metal should be shot blasted to Swedish standard SA 2½-3. Phosphating will assist the long term corrosion resistance in aggressive environments.
Batch Operation: Metal preheat temperature 280°C-340°C. A cure cycle at 170°C may be required on light items. Dipping time 5-20 seconds. Air cool or water quench.
Thicknesses outside the recommended range may be detrimental to the properties of the coating.
For typical properties of the coating see below.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Plascoat PPA 661 is supplied as a finely divided powder. Whilst there are no known health hazards associated with Plascoat PPA 661, normal handling precautions for dealing with fine organic powders should be taken - i.e. excessive dust generation and inhaling of the powder should be avoided. Facilities may be required for removing excess dust from the working area during the coating of more difficult items.
As with all polymeric powders, the material can ignite if brought into contact with a high temperature source or ignition - particularly in the fluidised condition.
Reference should be made to Plascoat Health and Safety Data Sheet HS501, available on request.
Should the coating be required for contact with food or potable water, further details should be obtained from Plascoat. |
