Plascoat PPA 571ES over Oxsilan Pre-treatment

Oxsilan is a novel nanoscale pre-treatment technology produced by Chemetall.  It is free of hazardous metals and is aimed to provide superior corrosion resistance for a wide range of metal substrates.

The use of Plascoat PPA 571ES over the correct grade of Oxsilan pre-treatment under the correct conditions* can offer superior salt-spray test results:

 Salt spray resistance: 1000 hrs

Blistering: None

Under-film corrosion: ~0mm

Loss of adhesion: ~0mm

Oxsilan can be applied by spray or dip, either directly onto clean metal, or as a final stage over a phosphate conversion coating.

 Over Alkali cleaner:

Gardobond S 5174 (Alkaline cleaner)

Tap water Rinse

Demineralised water Rinse

Oxsilan 9810/1

Demineralised water Rinse

Oven dry at 80ºC

 Or

 Over Iron phosphor-degrease:

Gardobond LM (Iron phosphor-degrease)

Tap water Rinse

Demineralised water Rinse

Oxsilan  MM0705

Oven dry at 80ºC

Note 1: It is essential that the correct grade or Oxsilan is used with the appropriate cleaner.

Note 2: These results are relevant to PPA 571ES sprayed by standard powder coating techniques. They are not relevant to fluid-bed or flock-spraying applications.

*There are a variety of grades Oxsilan which can be split into two families; those with metal ions and those with out metal ions.  To achieve optimum results with the Oxsilan systems, both careful control of the pH and cleanliness of the solutions are required. Oxsilans produce ecologically safe residues which are inexpensive to dispose of.
