The Lining of Fire Extinguishers on a Falcon 24 (Double Headed Spin Coater)

Timer Settings

The pre-heat time is normally 1½ minutes. Up to 30 seconds more may be required for thick walled cylinders. Pre-heat should be in the horizontal position
Dwell time - ½ min - (no burners, nodding at ~8 second cycle (4 seconds up and 4 seconds down))
Cure time - ½ min - (with burners)
Cooling time - 1½ to 2½ min - (without burners)
Overall cycle time - 4-5 minutes

Temperature

In order to obtain excellent adhesion with PPA665 it is essential that the cylinder walls reach a metal temperature of 260-300°C (240-280°C for PPA665XL).
The ideal temperature range is between 270°C and 290°C (260 °C for PPA665XL).

Shot Weights

Typical shot weights are as follows:

PPA 665

6 litre capacity - 320 g
9 litre capacity - 430 g
12 litre capacity - 540 g

PPA 665XL

6 litre capacity - 300 g
9 litre capacity - 400 g
12 litre capacity - 500 g

Finish and Stoving

PPA665 and PPA 665XL should produce an internal lining with a smooth finish.
If the lining is slightly rippled but adheres well to the substrate, then it is almost certainly unnecessary to increase the cure time. The lining will flow out to form a smooth finish when the cylinder is stoved during the curing of the coating applied to the outside of the cylinder. It may be necessary to put some cylinders through the stoving oven to check this during the initial set-up.
